Gary Edward Holliday , age 79, of Marion, passed away peacefully on Saturday May 22, 2021 with his family by his side. Gary was born in Marion to the late Homer Edward Holliday and Yvonne Catherine (Cory) Holliday-Ferguson. Gary was a 1959 graduate of Marion Harding High School. He married Linda Higgins on February 25, 1962.

Gary worked for the Marion Power Shovel for 35 years with most of his career supervising the gear lab. He later moved and set up the gear lab at Booneville Mining Equipment in Booneville, Indiana. He was also a 25 year member of the MPS Management Club. He also worked for Gleason (precision measurement) in Dayton, Ohio as a consultant during retirement. Gary and his grandfather Walter (Bill) Horn owned and operated H&H Specialty Shop building drag racing transmissions in the 1960's/1970's.

Gary was a charter member of the Marion Flywheels car club. He was an active and successful drag racer from the late 1950's until the early 1970's. He enjoyed hot rods and race cars his entire life. His last project was a dragster he and his older son, Rick, built and raced together.

Gary was a longtime member and former president of the Pleasant Lions Club. He was a very avid sports fan, never missing his sons' and grandchildre's high school and college events. He was a true Buckeye at heart, always cheering on his favorite sports teams. You could always find Gary tinkering around the garage working on cars or home improvement projects. When not working Gary enjoyed fishing or floating around his pool.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents, sister Judi Hughes, daughter in law Tina (Nicolosi) Holliday, step-grandson Kory Kirkpatrick, and brothers in law  Keith McFann and Larry Higgins.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 59 years Linda (Higgins) Holliday, sons Rick of Marion & Scot of Reynoldsburg, granddaughters Lindsay and Erica Holliday, step-granddaughter Hannah (Thomas) Kramer, sister Beth McFann, brother-in-law Mike Hughes, sister-in-law Nancy Higgins, brother-in-law Wayne (Yvonne) Wilcoxon.

Visitation will be Thursday May 27th 2021 at Edwards Funeral Service 318 Mt Vernon Ave, Marion from 5-8pm. The funeral service will be held Friday May 28th at the funeral home at 11am;burial will be in the Marion Cemetery. If so desired, donations may be made to Grace Baptist Church in care of Youth Church Camp.
