Obituary

Vivien B. Bonner, 89 years old, of Richmond, Indiana formally from Marion, Ohio passed away peacefully at the Springs of Richmond. Born in 1936, she was the daughter of Josie Johnson. She was the mother of two children, Rick Johnson and Gail Johnson. Vivien was a lifelong member of Quinn Chapel AME Church in Marion until she married James A. Bonner in 1976 and moved to Richmond, Indiana, where she joined Bethal AME Church and became a devoted member: where she implemented and took pride in feeding the hungry.

Her hobbies included crocheting and crossword puzzles. Holidays were her favorite time of the year, to baking an assortment of cookies so she could send them to family and friends.

Vivien was given the nickname “Bett” early on by her nephew Lester and sisters. She retired from Reid Memorial Hospital, and no one could tell that she was not knowledgeable in the medical field, as a result the family fondly referred to her as “Doctor Bett”.

Vivien is survived by her daughter Gail Johnson, granddaughter Erica Johnson, grandsons Troy (Sheena) Pender and Jason Pender, and Ricky Johnson II. Her sister Marion Slater, step children Melody Cartwright, Garnell McGathey, and James Bonner, Jr., a host of nieces and nephews, and numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great, great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her mother Josie Johnson, husband James A Bonner, son Rick Johnson, and sisters Dorothy, Ernestine, Minnie Pearl, Edith, and Katherine (Gennie).
