Thomas Clifford Indoe, age 93, of Marion, Ohio, went to be with the Lord on December 7, 2025, at home surrounded by his loving family following an extended illness.
On March 31, 1932, Thomas Clifford Indoe was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the 2nd born of three children to the late Clifford Harry Indoe and Geraldine Marie “Gerry” (Bentz) Indoe.
He was raised in Marion, where he graduated from Marion Harding High School in the class of 1951. He was a member of the Marion Harding marching band and played his trumpet.
Thomas helped his father with their family business, Indoe’s Heating and Appliance Company now known as Rocky’s Cyclery and Fitness. He left home and joined the United States Air Force to serve his country in October of 1951. He started basic training at Sampson Air Force Base in Seneca County, New York. He further moved on to Denver, Colorado at the Lowery Air Force Base. He traveled onward to be stationed at Walker Air Force Base in Roswell, New Mexico. While serving his duties he became a Radar Tail Gunner on a B36 military plane.
He met the love of his life Jewell Dene Kinsey, in March of 1954, and married his soulmate of 71 years of marriage on July 31, 1954. He completed his military service in October of 1955. He returned to Marion bringing with his lovely wife and first-born daughter.
He, again, returned to work for the family business, while carrying forward to working for the Erie Lackawanna railroad in Marion until he began working for Conrail Rail Services as a yard conductor. He then began earning an associate’s degree in education at Toledo University. He then became a teacher in Marion at Tri Rivers Joint Vocational School and an instructor in appliance and repairs at Knox Career Center. He also started his own business, Indoe’s Repair Services. After 6 years, he returned to his love of trains and moved to Dyer, Indiana to finish his career working for Amtrak as a conductor; running passenger trains from Chicago, Illinois to St. Louis, Missouri several days a week. He retired in 1994. He had several part time jobs during his lifetime which included the YMCA as a swimming instructor and Lincoln pool, a manager for Meadow Brook Pool, instructor for the Scuba Diving Club, and a SCI instructor as well as a member. He participated in many surviving rescue missions.
He had several lifetime memberships which include: The Epworth United Methodist Church and Come-Join Us class, earned his Eagle Scout with Boy Scouts of America and being a Scout Master of Epworth Methodist Troop #3. He enjoyed Safe Boating and became an instructor/commander of the Marion Power Squadron. He was a member of the Kawaini’s Club and Par Dance Club. Mirror Dinghy Club, which includes building your own sailboat. He participated in the Marion Civic Choir (Messiah) and last sang on November 28, 2022, at the age of 90. A member of Marionaires Barbershop Harmony and had a passion for cappella singing. Tom was a member of Marion Model trains as well as having and building his own.
Tom and his wife traveled to Europe and many more adventures together with both ending up being called Snowbirds. They went south for the winter to their home away from home to Ellenton, Florida after his retirement. They became avid card players, Dominos, and Bingo players. They were regular visitors to Bush Gardens with his sister; just enjoying life.
Throughout Tom’s life, he left no stone unturned and kept so busy with no grass growing under his feet. He truly loved his family and enjoyed vacationing at many historical landmarks, boating and fishing the Great lakes, especially Lake Erie and Marine City Yacht Club, where the family went weekly for years. He loved fishing, hunting and camping. He had a love of the water and just being outdoors. He was an avid Ohio State Buckeye, Cincinnati Bengals, and NASCAR fan. He was a bowler, roller skater, and water skier.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard (Dick) B. Indoe, sister-in-law Sally Ann Indoe, sister Nancy Jo Dasher and brother-in-law Walter (Gene) Eugene Dasher, and his aunt Mildred Indoe.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife Jewell, his five children, Twila Laing (Marion), Dixie (David) Haines (Marion), Ernest (Gena Dutton) Indoe (Marion), Vickie (Jack Wortman) Crokie (New Haven), and Donna Lightfoot (Bentonville, AR) Grandchildren Christopher (Vickie) Shriver, Todd Shriver, Carl (Cassie Cassell) Smith, Mary Burgess, David Lee Haines, Jr., Abigail (William) Poteet, Richard Haines, Christopher (Katie) Indoe, Aaron Indoe, Nathan (Alyson) Indoe, Riley (Erin) Galyk, Jason (Krista) Wells, Thomas (Stacy Higginbotham) Wells, Charlene Lightfoot and Dalton (Samantha) Lightfoot. Along with 36 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandsons. Several nieces and nephews.
