Obituary

Steven Leroy Hunter, born on September 24, 1952, in Columbus, Ohio, passed away on April 27, 2026, in Prospect, Ohio, after a long and courageous battle with illness. His departure leaves a profound void in the hearts of all who knew him, yet his memory shines brightly as a beacon of love, dedication, and resilience.

Steven was a man whose spirit was deeply rooted in devotion—to his family, his country, and the many simple joys that painted his life with warmth and laughter. On August 11, 1972, he married the love of his life, Linda. Their bond was one of genuine affection and mutual respect, a true partnership that blossomed through decades shared side by side. Together, they cherished traveling, exploring places hand in hand, creating memories that would last a lifetime. Steven had a particular fondness for fishing, finding solace and joy by the water’s edge, while Linda nurtured their love of nature through her passion for flowers. In a tender irony reflective of his quiet humor, Steven once confessed that after years of helping Linda plant countless flower beds, he had grown to harbor a playful dislike for flowers—a testament to the enduring, everyday acts of love that defined their relationship.

Steven’s sense of duty extended beyond his family to his country. He proudly served in the United States Army from 1974 to 1977, stationed at FT. ORD, California. After his active duty time was up, he was in the Army Reserves from 1977 to 1986. His time in the military was marked by honor and commitment, qualities that shaped his character throughout his life.

He is survived by his daughters Ardana (Herbert) Murphy and Mary (Tim) Fenstemaker, and his sons Jessie (Tracy) Hunter and Jeff (Crystal) Hunter. Each child carries forward Steven’s legacy of kindness and strength. Also holding a cherished place in his heart was his sister-in-law, Esther Hunter, along with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren who brought joy and light into his later years.

Steven was preceded in death by his beloved wife Linda Hunter; his parents, Robert and Juanita Hunter; his son John Hay; and his brothers Robert Hunter, Jr., Ray Hunter, Walter Hunter, as well as his sister Dixie Vow. Though they are no longer with us, their memories remain intertwined with Steven’s, forming the foundation of a family built on love and shared experience.

Steven Leroy Hunter’s life was a tapestry of love, service, and quiet humor. He faced his final days with the same strength and grace that defined him throughout life. As we remember Steven, we find comfort in the stories he leaves behind and in the deep love that will forever bind his family together. He will be profoundly missed but never forgotten.
