Samuel Howard Tubaugh Jr.

January 12, 1945 — August 4, 2023

Delaware, OH

With sadness, love, and gratitude, the family of Samuel Howard Tubaugh, Jr., would like to share that he was called home to heaven on August 4, 2023. Sam was born on January 12, 1945 in Columbus, Ohio to Rosemary (Cicolino) and Samuel H. Tubaugh, Sr. and lived most of his 78 years in Delaware, Ohio.

Sam proudly served in the Ohio Army National Guard for over 18 years where he was acknowledged for his marksmanship.

Fishing was Sam’s greatest passion and many wonderful memories (as well as some legendary fish stories) were created at Lake Erie with his brothers and with his family on the river banks of our hometown.

He really enjoyed laughing, telling jokes, and the occasional cup of cold water tossed over the shower curtain to make sure the kids were wide awake for school. As an avid sports fan, (especially Cleveland Browns and The Ohio State Buckeyes) Sam never missed a game and the opportunity to talk about it with friends and family, whether it be celebrating Ohio State’s big win, or why he thought the Browns lost with a detailed play-by-play.

True to his Italian heritage, Sam loved family gatherings with lots of laughter and great food.  Sometimes, even a little flour tossing while making his homemade ravioli as he sang his favorite Italian song over and over.

Sam never met a stranger and was always willing to lend his hand to help others.  Known as a very hard worker, Sam often held two jobs simultaneously  including: Dairy Farming, Chessie System Railway, Delaware Cab Co. and Reliance Concrete.

He was preceded in death by his parents; an infant brother, Michael; sister, Janie, and his oldest daughter, Donna.

Sam is survived by a son, Brian (Jennifer) Tubaugh of Ashley and a daughter, Tina Tubaugh, of Vero Beach, FL. Also surviving are two brothers, David (Savilla) Tubaugh of San Antonio, Florida and Carlo Tubaugh of Delaware, Ohio; two sisters, Debbie Bryant of Lutz, Florida, and Mary Tubaugh as well as grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and his amazing RN, Lori, who very much became family.

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has helped with Sam’s care and those who so graciously surround us with love, prayers, and support during this difficult time. There are definitely many angels among us.

A Celebration of Life and a fishing trip to Lake Erie will be announced at a later date.

In gratitude for the encouragement, support and love extended to Sam, please send any contributions to: Connect Church, 162 Belle Ave., Delaware, Ohio 43015.
