Robert Charles Mehaffey

Robert Charles Mehaffey, 72, of Prospect, OH went to be with our Lord in Heaven Wednesday, July 21st 2021 at OSU hospital. He had battled different illnesses for the past several years. He fought harder than any man could to be with his beloved wife and family.

Robert was born December 11, 1948 in Marion, Ohio to the late Charles E and Opal L (Bayles) Mehaffey. He is also preceded in death by 2 siblings, John and Shirley Mehaffey and one daughter in law Staci (Coons) Mehaffey.

On November 5, 1971 he married the love of his life Kathy S (Landon) Mehaffey. She survives along with their three children, Sean R (Jennifer) Mehaffey, Sarah B (Dale Sampsel Jr) Mehaffey, Simon P (Erica Shenefield) Mehaffey. Twelve Grandchildren and nine Great grandchildren. He has two living sisters, Alice (Chuck) Belt and Ruth Price, and one sister in law, Elizabeth Mehaffey.

Robert was a 1966 graduate of Elgin High School. He was a member of FFA, he showed hogs for many years at fairs and won Ohio State Reserve Grand Champion. He grew up as a farmer, farming for the majority of his life. Robert was in the Army Reserves for 4 years, directly following high school. He was a firefighter and EMT for Prospect Fire Department/Battle Run Fire Department for 20+ years. He was the Assistant Chief for Prospect FIre for several years. Robert worked for Honda of America for 32 years, he was the team lead of the stamping department, retiring in 2014. While employed with Honda, he traveled to Japan twice.

Robert loved the outdoors and spending time with his sons. He was an Assistant Scoutmaster with The Boy Scouts of America, taking Sean and Simon on adventures to Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico three times.

Robert was a strong Christian man, who had a passion for Christ and teaching God's word to his family and friends. He was a member of Dayspring Wesleyan Church of Marion. He was in the choir, Sunday school classes, and bible studies. He helped with Kidmo sport camps, banquets, musicals, and many other activities.

Services will be on Thursday July 29th, 2021 from 4pm to 7pm and his final service will be July 30th, at 11am with a celebration of life afterward. This will all be at Dayspring Wesleyan, 2431 Marion-Mt Gilead Rd, Marion. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Dayspring Wesleyan or Battle Run Fire Department in memory of Robert.
