Melvin Raymond Kelley

Melvin Raymond Kelley, age 78, of Prospect, passed away on February 22, 2016 surrounded by his wife and three sons. Melvin was born in Hamilton, Ohio on March 9, 1937 to Ralph and Lillian (Schuger) Kelley. On October 21, 1961 Melvin married the former Darlene Weaver and they were married for 54 years. Melvin proudly served his country in the United State Coast Guard from 1959 through 1965. He then went to work for GTE and worked at many locations around the state of Ohio until retiring in 1992. Mel loved spending time with his family. His favorite thing to do was to go camping and sit around the campfire. Later in life, he could be found at many of the Marion County high school sporting events supporting his grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister; Carol A. Duke. Left to cherish his memory are his wife; Darlene F. (Weaver) Kelley, his three sons; Jeffrey M. (Lisa) Kelley of Montclova, Steven R. (Mary) Kelley and Christopher S. (Linda) Kelley, both of Marion, his eight grandchildren; Alyssa (Brandon) Carson, Megan Kelley, Paige Kelley, Courtney Kelley, Kristen Kelley, Dylan Kelley, Jordan Kelley and Matthew Kelley, three great-grandchildren; Kayleigh Carson, Ashlyn Carson and Zayne Garcia. In keeping with Mel’s wishes, his life will be honored privately by his family. If desired, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to the Marion Area Humane Society.
