Larry Eugene Freeman passed away on June 1, 2026 in Marion, Ohio. He was born on April 29, 1947 in Marion.

Left to cherish his memories forever is his wife, Barbara K. Freeman. The couple had been together for 57 years, after getting married October 5, 1968, upon his return from Vietnam.

Strength through this loss and devastating grief has been offered, gratefully received and appreciated from nephew, Ronald Freeman and niece Kimberly Freeman. As Larry’s health became weakened and he needed assistance in projects, Ron was right there, often before Larry asked.

Although raised in Marion, where both worked at Marion Power Shovel, they co-owned and operated a campground in Jackson, Ohio and moved back to Marion where they owned and operated a ceramic shop, and a pizza store, among other jobs. They were both avid motorcycle riders. Larry and Barb relocated to south-eastern Florida in their 30’s where they lived and enjoyed life, and each other for more than 25 years. His interests in Florida included boating, diving, fishing, and remodeling several homes. While there, he worked in construction and eventually became a Communications Manager for an underground fiber optic corporation. Together, they moved to western Tennessee and enjoyed day-today activities slowing down the pace. Eventually, they moved back to Marion where his family resided.

He remodeled their first home in Marion on Smeltzer Road and after 5 years, the couple downsized and retired, moving into downtown Marion.

Larry became active in ham radio and joined the Marion Amateur Radio Club (MARC) where he served as President. He was also active in the Amateur Radio Emergency Services (ARES), volunteering at multiple events.

Larry is preceded in death by his parents Eugene Freeman and Eva Freeman Persinger, two brothers Donald Freeman and Ralph Freeman, two sisters Peggy Jean Freeman and Janice Chapman, and his grandparents Fred C. and Francis H. (Bowles) Freeman.

He is survived by one sister Teresa Freeman Farley (Dale) living in Florida as well as several nieces and nephews, all of whom reside in Ohio and Texas.
