Freeman Leroy Smith III

Freeman Leroy Smith III, age 57, of Marion passed away surrounded by his loving family early Saturday afternoon at Heartland of Marion Care Center. Born in Lincoln Park, Michigan on October 15, 1959 to Freeman and Betty (Blankenship) Smith Jr., Leroy had attended Tri-Rivers Vocational School and had worked for Mark Smith and also as an independent brick layer. He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers; Michael E. Smith and Roland M. Smith and 2 sisters; Regina L. Smith and Tina S. Smith. Left to cherish his memory are his 2 daughters; Nicole D. (Patrick) Dawson and Amber L. Smith, his sister; Gina L. (Jonathan) James, 3 grandchildren; Josiah Dawson, Kaylee Collins and Hayden Collins, 2 nephews; Jonathan Adam James II and Tim M. (Shelly) Smith, 2 nieces; Samantha J. (JD) Wingfield and Sue Smith, the mother of Leroy’s children; Jennifer Moore and his closest friend; Mark (Joyce) Smith. Leroy was truly loved by his entire family, especially his daughters and grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, his family suggests considering contributions be made to the funeral home to help his daughters with expenses.
