Beneath that rough edge was a man who deeply loved his grandchildren and found his favorite place to be at home with Deborah.

Franklin Dee Crabtree, lovingly known as “Spanky,” passed away on October 28, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio. He was born on August 4, 1962, in Marion, Ohio, and will be remembered with deep affection by those who knew and loved him.

Franklin was a hardworking man who took real pride in his work at Park Enterprise Construction. As a loader, he loved his job and especially enjoyed the chance to run different equipment each day. That daily work suited him well and reflected the steady, hands-on spirit he carried throughout his life.

He also knew how to enjoy life in his own memorable way. Over the years, Franklin liked a good party and loved sitting by a bonfire. He enjoyed playing cards with family and friends and loved shooting pool. He was a devoted fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and the Pittsburgh Steelers. Some of his happiest times were the simple ones he shared with Deborah, taking walks together and riding their scooters around town. He also liked to barter for items such as lights and décor for his home bar, a space that no doubt reflected his personality and his love of gathering with others.

Franklin was, as many would say with a smile, a grouchy old man, but he was dearly loved by everyone around him. He was set in his ways, spunky, and full of character. Beneath that rough edge was a man who deeply loved his grandchildren and found his favorite place to be at home with Deborah. One of the accomplishments that brought him special pride was earning his driver’s license in his 60s. He was proud of himself for sticking with it and passing after a few tries, and that moment captured his determination and sense of humor perfectly.

In the hearts of those who loved him, he leaves behind memories of bonfires, ballgames, scooter rides, card games, and the comfort of simply being together.

He is survived by Deborah Lama, the woman he lovingly called his wife. He also leaves behind his daughters, Dannielle Crabtree and Telena Crabtree; his step-daughter Torey (Jeremy) Lama, and step-son Curtis (Beth) Mathias; and his brother, Walt Crabtree and his sister Tammy Berry. He will be missed in the everyday moments of family life, in shared stories, in laughter around a card table, and in the warmth of time spent together at home.

Franklin was preceded in death by his father, Walter Crabtree; his mother, Beulah Crabtree; his sisters Brenda and Tina; his son, Franklin Crabtree; and his grandson, Korbyn Mathias. Their memories remained part of his life and story, and now he is reunited with those who went before him.

Franklin will be remembered for his strong will, his spunky nature, his love for family, and the unmistakable way he made his presence known. In the hearts of those who loved him, he leaves behind memories of bonfires, ballgames, scooter rides, card games, and the comfort of simply being together. His life was one of work, laughter, stubborn pride, and love, and he will not be forgotten.
