Elza "Cap" Richard
Heller
April 9, 1943 – March 26, 2026
Elza "Cap" Richard Heller, cherished husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, passed away peacefully at his home in Marion, Ohio, on March 26, 2026, at the age of 82. After a courageous and long battle with cancer, he was surrounded by the love of his family in his final moments.
Born on April 9, 1943, in Marion to Elmer Harrison and Minnie Margaret (Walter) Heller, Cap’s life was marked by dedication, service, and vibrant passions. He honorably served as an Army medic during the Korean War, a testament to his brave and caring nature. Upon returning home, Cap applied his skills and work ethic at Marion Power Shovel, Erie Railroad, and as a mechanic at Stofcheck, where he was known for his craftsmanship and reliability.
Cap’s zest for life extended beyond his professional years. A true enthusiast of speed and precision, he delighted in building and racing his fast cars. He found joy in peaceful moments spent fishing and tending his garden, and could often be found enjoying his favorite music, played loudly. His creativity shone through his woodworking projects, lovingly crafted in his man cave, leaving behind treasured keepsakes. Cap also valued camaraderie and fellowship as a dedicated member of the VFW and American Legion.
He is lovingly survived by his devoted wife, Diana Heller; his daughters, Cathy Houseworth and Cheryl Sisson; his brother-in-law, Les Snyder; grandchildren Elza (Heather) Sisson and Courtney (Matt) Gregory; and great-grandchildren Maelee Dewitt, Elza, and Jacob Sisson.
Cap was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters, Myrna Marie and Joyce Snyder.
His family and friends remember Elza “Cap” Heller as a man of strength, kindness, and warmth—a life well-lived and a legacy that will continue to inspire all who knew him.
