Dorothy Ann Baker’s story began on August 13, 1939 in Mansfield, Ohio, where she was born to Robert George Montaque and Ruby Virginia Delores Hopton (Ebert). She grew up alongside her sisters, Karen Nelson and Helen Perry, and her brother, Roger (Marsha) Hopton. Dorothy graduated in the class of 1957 from Mansfield Madison High School. She was elected the May Queen at Madison Lawn Fete and by her side was elected King Kenneth Baker. This fairy tale story continued.

Of all the moments that shaped her life, one stood above the rest. She was the beautiful redhead who caught Kenny Baker’s eye, and in August 1957, she became his wife. What followed was a devoted partnership of nearly seven decades, filled with laughter, adventure, and unwavering commitment. Together, they built a life rich in simple joys—playing cards, camping under the stars, fishing, and traveling wherever the road would take them.

Dorothy was a partner in every chapter of that life, not simply a witness to it. When Kenny’s years with Nickles Bakery brought the family to Marion, Ohio, the two of them owned and operated the Green Camp Dairy Bar, a place that reflected their shared dedication and community spirit. During their time in Marion, Dorothy also worked at Marion Brick, contributing in her own way to the family and community she loved. She made a home for her family wherever Kenny’s career with Tappan Industries led them, first in Houston, Texas, and later in Asheville, North Carolina. While living in Houston, Dorothy worked at the Houston Chronicle, adding another chapter to her working life and the many roles she embraced along the way. In retirement, Dorothy and Kenny settled in Homosassa, Florida, where they enjoyed a well-earned season of rest, sunshine, and time together.

The greatest joy of Dorothy’s life was the family she and Kenny built together. They were blessed with three children: LoAnn Baker Burgess (Michael), Lori Kramp (Doug), and Kenneth Raymond Jr. “Buzz” (Missy). Her love and legacy continue through her beloved grandchildren: Audra Parham (Mark), Andrea McGraw (Rory), Meagan Hill (Joshua), Josh Kramp (Amy), Dustin Kramp (Mia), Rebekah Polley, and Kent Baker (Jeanie).

Her family continued to grow, giving Dorothy the beautiful gift of watching another generation she loved so dearly come into the world. Her great-grandchildren include: Tori Thomas (Ronnie), Ansley and Reese McGraw, Barret and Gunner Hill, Josiah and Elise Kramp, Carson and Liam Canterbury, Lincoln and Rosie Kramp, Hunter and Hinzley Baker, and Mallori Polley; and to her great-great-grandchild, Xavier Hollifield.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Kenneth Raymond “Kenny” Baker; her parents ; her daughter, LoAnn Baker Burgess; and her grandson, Kent Baker.

To know Dorothy was to know warmth, quiet strength, and a generous heart. She was a devoted wife, a proud mother, and a deeply cherished grandmother whose presence brought comfort and joy to those around her. She had a way of making family feel like home, and the memories she created with the people she loved will remain long after her passing.

Dorothy will be deeply missed by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, extended family, and a host of dear friends whose lives were made better simply by knowing her.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff and residents of The Marion Meadows for the abundance of love, care, friendship, and kindness Dorothy received there. Their compassion helped make The Marion Meadows a true home for Dorothy.

Graveside service will be held at 4pm on October 10, 2026 at Lantz Cemetery, 1229 Lucas Road, Mansfield, Ohio (weather permitting). The celebration of life will continue at Der Dutchman, 720 St Rte 97 West in Belleville, Ohio. Family and friends are invited to join us for dinner. Special music will be performed by great-grandchildren: Josiah and Elise Kramp, and Mallori Polley.
