Daniel Hapner, 81, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 19, 2026 at his home.

He was born on January 28, 1945, in Columbus, Ohio, to the late Rhea Hapner. Dan graduated from Central High School in Columbus in 1964, where COSI now stands.

Following graduation, he worked as a finish carpenter, helping build homes and businesses throughout the Columbus and Bucyrus areas until 1974. He then began a career as a welder at Galion Dresser, where he remained until his retirement. Never one to sit still, Dan continued working during retirement as a custodian for Peoples’s Savings and Loan in Bucyrus.

On October 16 th of 1966, Dan married the love of his life, Darlene Scheerer of Bucyrus and Grove City, Ohio. Later they made their home in Bucyrus, Ohio.

Dan is lovingly remembered by his daughter, Sabrina (Hapner) Rench and her husband, Greg Rench, of Placida, Florida; his son, Skyler Hapner, and daughter-in-law, Veronica (Pelfrey) Hapner, of Upper Sandusky, Ohio; his sister, Loretta Wilson of Columbus, Ohio; his nephew, Gary Smallwood of Columbus, Ohio; and his three beloved grandchildren: Hayden Rench of Deep Creek, Florida, Emily Rench of Charleston, South Carolina, and Olivia Hapner of Upper Sandusky, Ohio.

Dan dedicated his life to worshiping Jehovah God and was baptized in December 1975. He served as an Elder in the Galion Congregation of Jehovah’s Witness until his death. His steadfast faith and love for Jehovah were an important part of who he was and touched the lives of many.

Dan will be remembered as a hardworking, kind, and patient man with a wonderful sense of humor. He found great joy in woodworking, fishing, gardening, and making others laugh. Above all, he cherished the time he spent with his family and friends.

A memorial service for Daniel Hapner will be on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 2:00 pm at the Galion Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses, 915 Portland Way North, Galion, Ohio.
