Dale "Detri" Edward Plotner

Dale Edward Plotner III, lovingly known as “Detri,” 26 years of age, of Marion, Ohio, passed away unexpectedly on October 12th at 3:14 a.m.

He was born on February 15, 1999, at Grady Memorial Hospital in Delaware, Ohio, to Kimberly Cover (Cowgill) and Dale Plotner Jr. He graduated from Harding High School in 2017 and attended The Ohio State University at Marion, completing partial coursework toward his degree.

Dale was a big-hearted person with a tough exterior — the kind of guy who might come off as rough around the edges but was really just a big softie underneath. He had a special bond with kids, who always seemed to love him right away, and the feeling was mutual. He had a wide range of interests that made him truly one of a kind.

He loved staying active — running, weightlifting, and canoeing were some of his favorite ways to be out in the world. He was also creative, often writing rap lyrics, singing, or getting lost in a game. He enjoyed collecting coins, stones, or anything that caught his eye and sparked his curiosity.

Cars were another big passion of his. He loved working on them just as much as driving them fast. And if you knew him, you knew he was always ready with a joke, always trying to make someone laugh. More than anything, he showed up for the people he cared about — the type who would give you the shirt off his back, no questions asked.

Detri was taken from us too soon, and his absence leaves a hole that can’t be filled. But he gave us so many good memories — ones filled with laughter, loyalty, and love — and those will stay with us forever.

He was preceded in death by his grandfather, Dale Plotner Sr., and his cousin, Freddie Curtis Jr.

He is survived by his mother, Kimberly Cover; stepfather, Brent Cover; father, Dale Plotner Jr.; brother, Chase Plotner (& Lissette Gonzalez); grandmothers, Rosemary Vaughn and Brenda Stamper; grandfather, Kirt Cowgill; stepsisters, Alexandria Cover and Mackenzie Weber; cousins, Myja Curtis, Justice Curtis, and Carmen Curtis; uncles, Jesse Cowgill, Mike (Tara) Niehoff, and Joey Niehoff; and aunts, Amy (Bobby) Page and Autumn Curtis.
