Marion

Clarence “Clancey” W. DeVore, 83, of Marion Ohio, passed away surrounded by family on Saturday, March 18th, 2023, at Marion General Hospital. Clarence was born in Dayton, Ohio, on March 20th, 1939, to Alva and Sylvia (Garvin) DeVore.

Clarence is preceded in death by his parents and siblings as well as his daughter Stacey A. Hill, granddaughter Danielle DeVore and two of his favorite dogs Boots and Sophie.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Carol A. (Butler) DeVore, son Todd DeVore, grandchildren Lindsay (Charlie) Harrell; Kris (Stephanie) Hall and Cassandra DeVore, Great Grandchildren Ayden Phelps; Ayla and Parker Harrell; Brylie, Brayden and Bryson Hall, Kaelyn Dunn and his newest pup Ginger.

Clarence met his wife Carol in high school when they were set up on a blind date at the Marion skating rink. They became high school sweethearts and were married a few short years later on November 7th, 1959. They built a wonderful life together full of travel and family.

Most recently Clancey was an active member of the Marion Township Zoning Commission board. In his younger adult years, he was a drag racer at the Marion International Raceway where he won many trophies that are still on display in his business. At that time, he also worked for Cooper Auto Supply for many years and rebuilt racecar engines on the side. The love of rebuilding the engines gave him the idea to open his own business which he called “Clancey’s Engine Rebuilding.” He worked in his shop for 50 years doing exactly what he loved to do until his last day on earth. He will be missed dearly by everyone he knew.

Clarence wished his body to be cremated. No services are to be held as family will celebrate his life together privately.
