Cheri Penry, age 71, passed away peacefully surrounded by loving family members on Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Marion General Hospital. She was born on June 17, 1954, to John Penry and Mary (Boxwell) Penry, in Marion, Ohio.

She graduated from Marion Harding High School in 1973. She retired from Wyandot Popcorn.

Cheri truly lived life to the fullest. She had a love of story telling and had a way of making everything funny by telling stories in her own unique way. Her personality was very strong-willed and stubborn, but in a good way to set a permanent example for her family. Her favorite hobbies included gardening, listening to her favorite songs, and making crafts alongside her family.

She was a comfort of love and laughter. She was seen as a safe space to those around her; wrapped in a tiny, but strong package.

She is survived by her partner of 30 years, Bo “Bobo” McGowan, her daughter and son-in-law Taniqua and John Blankley, granddaughters Autumn Silverio, Sierra Silverio, Lilian Blankley, Lanie Blankley, her father John Penry, and siblings Lindy (Claude) Emery, Karen Penry, and Jacki Clark. She is also survived by nieces and nephews Lauren Oates, Erin Kettrick, Lindsey Bass, Danyelle Bass, Jennifer Voise, Erich Voise, and Emily Sumner.

She is preceded in death by her mother Mary Penry and her brother Michael.

Above all else, Cheri was an animal advocate of all types; and would love for people to donate to the Marion Area Humane Society in honor of her passing. Cheri’s memory will be treasured by her family and friends, who will continue to cherish all the stories, knowledge, and love she shared throughout her life.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 22, 2026, from 3 pm- 5 pm at 24 Copeland Avenue, Marion, Ohio 43302.
