It is with deep respect and heartfelt remembrance that we honor the life of Charles Raymond Simpkins, who was born on July 30, 1939, in Marion, Ohio, and passed away peacefully on May 5, 2026, in Columbus, Ohio. Charles’s journey through life was marked by a quiet strength, a gentle spirit, and an abiding love for his family and community.
A proud graduate of Harding High School in Marion, Ohio, Charles dedicated over thirty years of diligent service to the state of Ohio, working within the Department of Transportation. His commitment and integrity in his career were reflections of the disciplined and easygoing nature he possessed, earning him the respect of colleagues and friends alike.
Charles was a man of gentle disposition and quiet demeanor, traits that endeared him to those who knew him well. He enjoyed the simple pleasures of life: working with his hands, immersing himself in books—particularly the works of Clive Cussler—and embracing the tranquility of fishing and the outdoors. His lifestyle was a testament to his appreciation for the world around him and his desire to find peace in nature’s embrace.
One of the most cherished memories shared by those who loved Charles was the profound connection they experienced, even in times of illness, where mutual affection and understanding were always clearly conveyed, underscoring the deep bonds of love that defined his relationships. He was saved in 1965 loved his church and his saviour.
Charles is survived by his beloved wife, Myrta Simpkins, who stood beside him through all of life’s seasons. He leaves behind a large and loving family, including his children Debbie Boynton, Cyndi Simpkins, Jesse Simpkins, Denise Simpkins, Lisa Darrett (Greg), Amy Schaeffer, and Dale Simpkins (Amber). His legacy continues through twenty-seven grandchildren and twenty-three great-grandchildren, all of whom carry forward the values and warmth imparted by Charles. He is also survived by his sisters Shirley Loving and Janice Thompson.
Preceding him in death are his devoted parents, Charles and Iona Simpkins, and his brother Stanley Simpkins, who are fondly remembered and cherished in the hearts of the family.
A visitation to honor Charles will be held on May 13, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at Grace Baptist Church, located at 1560 Marion-Marysville Road, Marion, Ohio 43302. The funeral service will follow immediately at 12:00 p.m. and continue until 1:00 p.m., providing family, friends, and community members an opportunity to gather, reflect, and pay tribute. Burial will take place at Grand Prairie Cemetery and Monuments at 4964 Brush Ridge Dr N, Marion, Ohio 43302, beginning at 1:15 p.m., where Charles will be laid to rest with dignity and honor.
Charles Raymond Simpkins lived a life grounded in love, humility, and devotion—a life that will echo in the memories of all who were fortunate to know him. His legacy is one of steadfast kindness, quiet strength, and unwavering family bonds. Though his physical presence is no longer with us, the gracious spirit of Charles will forever remain a guiding light to those who carry his memory forward.
