Carl Joseph Mounts, age 93, passed away January 26, 2024, at BriarCliff Manor in Middlefield, OH. He was born February 12, 1930, in Marion, OH to Joseph Humphrey Mounts and Florence Schmeltzer Mounts.

Carl grew up in Marion, OH and graduated from Harding High School in 1947, where he was a member of the band and developed a life-long love of music.

Carl had an early interest in automobile mechanics, which he learned from a neighbor. He started working at Danner Buick Garage as a mechanic when he was 14 years old. This was during World War II and young boys were doing the work of the men, who were in the service of our country.

He was active in the Jr. Chamber of Commerce for many years and as a Jaycee representative helped start Little League Baseball in Marion.

He was handy with anything mechanical or electrical and enjoyed woodworking, building maintenance and repair.

Carl married Willie Bridges Mounts on August 28, 1959, in Trinity Baptist Church in Marion. They made their home in Marion. Carl worked for the Pennsylvania Railroad (later acquired by NS RR), operated Carl J Mounts Insurance Service and managed Mounts Apartments. After 20 years he closed the insurance agency. He retired after 30 years’ service from Norfolk Southern Railroad Company in 1988, continuing to manage Mounts Apartments. He had owned and maintained rental property since 1949. Carl is a past member of the Marion Area Rental Property Association.

Carl is survived by one son, Steven Carl Mounts (Judy) of Columbus; three grandchildren, Tiffany Brooke Mounts Baker (Scott) of Hiram, OH, Jennifer Beth Mounts Downey of Deerfield, OH and Matthew Louis Radicelli (Kristen) of Twinsburg, OH, ten great-grandchildren; Emily Mae Baker, Madelyn Anne Baker, Noah Scott Baker, Josiah Scott Baker, Lydia Rae Baker, Michael Sheridan Downey, Cecilia Rose Radicelli, Matthew Alexander Radicelli, Annabel Elise Radicelli, Lillian Margaret Radicelli; one brother-in- law who was like a brother to him: Forrest Milton Bridges (Janice) of Philadelphia, MS. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews and other relatives and friends. Carl was preceded in death by his wife Willie Mae Bridges Mounts of Marion and by his loving parents: Joseph Humphrey Mounts & Florence Schmeltzer Mounts. He was also preceded in death by his beloved mother-in-law and father-in-law: Lillie Mae Morgan Bridges of Carthage, MS and three brothers-in-law: William Wesley Bridges of Carthage, MS, Perry Hilburn Bridges of Wiggins, MS, Arthur Raymond Bridges of Bonaire, GA; four sisters-in-law: Anne Marie Bridges, Freddie Jane Bridges, Helen Bridges and Laura Bridges.

No calling hours will be observed. Graveside rites will be held at a later date. Burial will be in Pine Grove Church of God Cemetery – Edinburg in Carthage, MS. Celebration of Life Open House will be held February 15, 2024, from 4:00pm – 6:00pm at 251 Clover Ave, Marion, OH.
